Oil & Acrylic Painting Workshop North West Community College

In this workshop you can choose to work with either Oils or Acrylic paints. Learn about colour, composition, tones etc.. to create your painting, and various techniques for brushes or palette knife in either medium. Bring a photo to copy or an idea to work with, stretched canvas, sketchbook pencils and a plastic sheet. For Acrylic painting bring: Matisse or Atylier Acrylic paints, assorted brushes, acrylic Medium for mixing paints, rags and a pallet and table easel. For Oil painting bring: Art Spectrum or Rowney Georgian oil paints, oil Medium for mixing, assorted brushes, pallet knife, rags, turps to wash brushes, a pallet and small table easel. All Items available at art supply stores, approx. basic cost $40.

Learn about materials, composition and backgrounds, mixing colours, forming your subject, details and highlights. Materials needed for first lesson: Oil paints (Reeves-set of 12), Conte pencilgrey, canvas or boards, palette, small variety of brushes, Liquin, vegetable oil and rags, plastic sheet, a small photo/print for copying and a small table easel. Approximate cost $60 plus, depending on quality of materials, which are available at art supply shops.

Oil Painting: Contemporary/Experimental North West Community College

Oil painting is a fundamental medium for painters which combines all essential skills. Oil paintings are known for their excellence, durability and prominence. This course introduces the foundations of oil painting and contrasts it with less conventional painting techniques. It is a quick learning method for beginners and an exploration of different methods that painters with experience would enjoy. The pace and tasks will be adjusted to individual needs and interests. Materials required for first lesson: Set of oil paints, small collection of brushes, regular flat palette, palette knife, turps & turps dipper, small canvas board or paper for oil painting, cloth for cleaning brushes, apron or old long shirt to protect clothing, barrier cream to protect hands. Approximate cost $60 (most of the materials can be purchased in $2 shops). Additional materials throughout the course: 7 canvas or canvas boards (A4 or bigger), set of oil pastels, charcoal & oil medium. Table easel is optional.
