In this subject you will be introduced to Australian Sign Language (Auslan) and practise expressing visual communication - including facial and body movements. You will also go through some expressions familiar to Auslan - including index finger signs, describing people and shapes, indicating possession and time; and practise finger spelling the Australian alphabet. Discover the language used by members of the Deaf Community and find out how this differs from Signed English. The subject also gives a background of Deafness in education, and highlights some contemporary issues and services provided to the Deaf Community.
