About Black Diamond Training and Safety Solutions
RTO code: 45306
Our company was founded by the late Mark John Harris who passed away after a short and courageous battle with illness in April 2020. Mark had over 50 years’ experience in the underground coal mining industry. He was an Order of Australia medallist for his contributions to the mining industry.
Mark achieved a great many things in his life and it would take a very long time to detail all his achievements. But some of them are that he was a first responder at the Appin Mine Disaster, and the Appin drift fire. Mark was also at the Avon mine fire and participated in the successful underground fire-fighting there. He was also a rescue worker at several other major incidents including fatal accidents. Mark served for 32 years at the Southern Mines Rescue Station as an instructor, training officer and training co-ordinator.
In the world of coal mining, Mark was a giant in the education and training aspects. His knowledge and real world experience, his skills, his personality and sense of humour made him a perfect fit for the role. He was a master trainer, an educator, a stalwart, one of the old boys, a true professional. Mark was a teacher, mentor and friend to so many people.
Since Mark’s passing the company continues to thrive under the direction of his wife Anne and son Jamie and supported by several trainers in NSW and QLD.
