An entry test ensures you are placed in the right level for your learning needs.
As a student, you will have access to courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels. The course also builds your confidence to use English in real-life situations such as travelling, working, and living in Australia.

As an AICOL General English course student, you will have classes available for English courses from beginner to advanced and you will:
• learn the core skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening
• build fluency and accuracy in spoken English
• develop the confidence to speak English, and to travel, work and live in Australia
• increase your English vocabulary
• improve your pronunciation
• graduate with real-world English skills you can use anywhere
• learn with experienced and qualified teachers in small classes
The AICOL General English course will build your confidence to speak English in a range of real-life situations. We understand that the biggest challenge to communicating successfully in a foreign language is the fear of making mistakes. Our teachers and staff will encourage you to overcome this fear.
Students learning English at the beginner level sometimes choose to study English when enrolled in one of our Camps programs. The student will be in the same international class as the regular Beginner course student but will also enjoy after class activities every day. These General English-Beginner programs are suitable for all ages. An AICOL staff member accompanies students on all camp activities.
General English Pre Intermediate
The entry requirement for the Pre-Intermediate General English class is completion of the AICOL Beginner Course or assessment based on an AICOL Entrance Test. Pre-Intermediate (Elementary English) level is equivalent to CEFR A2.
International students need an appropriate visa such as a visitor visa, a student visa, working holiday visa etc. The student visa requires 20 hours face-to-face study plus 3 hours of general independent study with a teacher. The additional 3 hours of study is an optional extra for students on other visas.
General English Intermediate
The entry requirement for our General English Intermediate level is completion of the Pre-Intermediate Course or assessment on the AICOL Entrance Test. Intermediate level is equivalent to CEFR B1. It is for people who can understand English reasonably well but have difficulty with more complex grammar and vocabulary.
General English Upper Intermediate level
Study English in Australia at Upper Int level to become a confident English speaker using everyday language. The entry requirement for Upper Intermediate General English – completion of AICOL Intermediate English course or assessment on AICOL entrance test.
Study English 20 hours of face to face plus an additional 3 hours general independent study for student visa students. The additional 3 hours is an optional extra for students on other visas. Face-to face and/or online class now available.
General English – Advanced
AICOL General English Advanced class is delivered face-to-face or online. This intensive English language course studies English at a relatively high level of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The English course will enable you to speak English fluently in most situations. You will achieve a wide vocabulary and a good understanding of complex grammar.
Advanced General English approximates IELTS 7, Cambridge Advanced (CAE), and CERF C1.
