Study mode

Blended

Duration

6 months

Course fees

$3,150

HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance is the entry qualification for hospital and acute care support work. NTA packages it to provide the Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care specialisation — including HLTAIN001 and HLTAIN002 — so you develop practical skills for working alongside nurses on a ward rather than in community or residential settings.

You’ll learn to assist with nursing care and personal care under supervision, support patient movement and transport safely between wards and departments, apply infection prevention and control practices including hand hygiene and PPE, interpret and use medical terminology in clinical documentation and handover, work with clinical equipment and manage ward stock, recognise healthy body systems, respond effectively to behaviours of concern, and provide first aid.

The course is 15 units — 7 core and 8 electives, completed over a minimum of 6 months. Your theory is delivered as structured, scheduled online learning with set submission dates, and your simulation, practical sessions and assessment are face-to-face at NTA’s Burwood campus in Sydney. You also complete a minimum of 80 hours of work placement in an acute-care environment that meets the requirements of the relevant units of competency, coordinated by NTA.

Graduates seek roles including Assistant in Nursing (AIN), Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Assistant, Ward Assistant, Health Services Assistant and Hospital Orderly. Employment outcomes depend on successful completion, employer requirements and individual suitability.
