CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support is the entry qualification for aged care and disability support work. NTA delivers it with the Ageing and Disability specialisation — all three ageing electives and all three disability electives — so you develop practical skills relevant to supporting people across both sectors rather than one.
You’ll learn to provide person-centred support by following an individualised plan, support a client’s independence and daily living needs, recognise healthy body systems and report changes in a client’s condition, apply infection prevention, control and safe manual handling, support people living with dementia, deliver care using a palliative approach, and support community participation and social inclusion.
The course is 15 units — 9 core and 6 electives, completed over a minimum of 23 weeks. Your theory is delivered as structured, trainer-led online classes with set self-directed activities between them, and your simulation, practical sessions and assessment are face-to-face at NTA’s Burwood campus in Sydney. You also complete a minimum of 120 hours of work placement in an aged care or disability services organisation, coordinated by NTA.
Graduates seek roles including Aged Care Worker, Disability Support Worker, Personal Care Worker, Individual Support Worker, Community Care Worker and Residential Care Worker. Employment outcomes depend on successful completion, employer requirements and individual suitability.
