This a standard apprenticeship with the mode of study being a combination of”on the job and “off the job” training and assessment.

Entry requirements
Domestic Students
- There are no mandated entry requirements.
- Learners are required to be competent in written and spoken English and will undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test prior to commencing the training. Refer to LLN policy for further details.
- Students must have a sense of balance and the ability to cope with the physical demands of the training and assessment that involves working at heights, heavy lifting, manual labour, operation of tools (both manual and power tools) etc.
- Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Policy is applicable for this course. The device must have camera and speaker functions. Please refer to our BYOD Policy for details.
- Internet Access with a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.
- Basic digital literacy (ability to communicate and access information through digital technologies like internet platforms, social media, search engines, emails and basic use of MS office products).
- Students should have access to the following work safe clothing (at their own cost) that are suitable for a working on a construction site:
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Appropriate work wear (including long sleeve shirt for outdoor work)
- Steel Capped safety footwear
- Hard Hat
- Safety Glasses
- Earmuffs or earplugs
Eligibility Requirements:
A participant who is
- Currently working in the building and construction industry and have been registered or intending to be registered in NSW Carpentry Apprenticeship.
- Must be 15 years or more, (For participants under the age of 18 years, enrolment form must be signed by parents/guardians on behalf of the participants).
- No longer in secondary education – except for registered home school students and
- Living or working in NSW (or an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who does not live or work in NSW but lives in specific defined interstate NSW border areas)
- An Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen.
- Should hold a White Card which is required before the participant can step on a building and construction site. (Note: Orange College delivers the unit of competence CPCWHS1001 – Prepare To work safely in a construction industry and is authorised to issue the White Card.
Course fees
- NSW Subsidised Training This training may be subsidised by the NSW Government for eligible individuals. Places are limited.
Government Funding is available for eligible applicants.
This course is subsidised by the NSW Government under the “Smart and Skilled” initiative.
