Operating Theatre Technician play an important part in the setup, checks and maintenance of operating theatres, anaesthetic workstations, life support machines and associate ed equipment.

The number of Operating Theatre Technicians have grown very strongly over 5 years with most workers working full time in the health care and social assistance industry.

Operating theatre technicians:

  • Transport patients to and from the theatre and wards
  • Assist in preparing operating rooms for surgery
  • Set up, check, connect and adjust surgical equipment
  • Provide technical assistance to surgeons, surgical nurses and anaesthetists
  • Clean and restock the operating room, arranging instruments, supplies and equipment according to instruction
  • Position patients for surgical and anaesthetic treatments.

  • There are no mandated entry requirements.
To enrol in the Certificate IV in Operating Theatre Technical Support it is anticipated that you will have completed year 10 or equivalent. Additional requirements may apply.
