CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health is for workers who provide self-directed, recovery oriented support to people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability. You will learn to implement community based programs and activities that focus on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability, and to work autonomously under the broad guidance of other practitioners and professionals. The work applies across a range of community contexts, including community based non-government organisations, home based outreach, centre based programs, respite care, residential services, rehabilitation programs, clinical settings and services that support people in employment.
You’ll learn to build self-directed, recovery oriented relationships with the people you support, apply trauma informed practice in your day-to-day work, support people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues, recognise and respond to crisis situations including risk of suicide, promote self-advocacy and work collaboratively with the care network, assess and promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing, assist clients with medication, practise in a culturally safe way with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and provide first aid.
