This qualification applies to individuals who apply competitive systems and practices to their work, contribute to identifying improvements and assist others to do the same. It provides a mixture of fundamental and advanced skills, including guiding others in the competitive systems and practices environment. It complements but does not duplicate qualifications that cover specific operational or technical skills. It is an add-on for people with existing skills in areas such as production, logistics, administration, healthcare, maintenance, financial services, warehousing, agribusiness or other industries. Where these skills are not held, appropriate qualifications from other Training Packages should be considered.
This qualification is not suitable for direct entry from school. It assumes the person has current or past work experience with operational or technical skills and enough expertise to take some facilitation, guidance or similar responsibility for team members. The skills may be known under various titles, which can be confusing. Some titles refer to manufacturing, the origin of many competitive systems and practices. Others refer to specific techniques or approaches that combine different techniques. Titles may include lean manufacturing, lean six sigma, lean operations, agile project management, and others. These terms have changed over time and are now applied across many industries.
‘Competitive Systems and Practices’ is not an approach or system in itself but a broad term for the flexible application of various tools, techniques, systems and approaches that share goals such as continuous improvement, efficiency and business improvement. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in 12 units: 3 core and 9 electives.
