More information
Intensive Care Paramedics (also known as Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance Paramedics (ICPs)) are highly trained first responders who attend car accidents, workplace injuries, natural disasters, dangerous incidents and other medical emergencies where an ambulance has been called. They have the specialist skills required to perform advanced medical procedures and may supervise junior paramedics and ambulance workers.
As an Intensive Care Paramedic you could be assessing an injured patient at the scene of a car accident, performing resuscitation and defibrillation on an unresponsive drowning victim, instructing an ambulance assistant at the scene of a dangerous incident at a worksite, administering lifesaving drugs, or just completing mandatory paperwork at the end of a busy shift.
Intensive Care Paramedicine is a very challenging occupation and to succeed you will need to be quick-thinking and level-headed, physically fit, and able to cope with the sight of blood and traumatic injuries.
