The Certificate II in Horticulture covers the basics of horticulture, including recognising, planting and maintaining trees and plants. You’ll also choose an elective stream to develop specialist industry-relevant skills.

Why study this course?

• Studying this engaging course is an excellent way to get an idea of what it would be like to work in the horticulture industry without committing to an apprenticeship or more extensive studies.
• You have three elective streams to choose from: Nursery, Parks and Gardens and Landscaping. Whichever stream you choose will give you a deeper understanding of this growth area and help you develop in-demand, industry-specific skills.
• Studying online with Open Colleges means you can fit learning around your life. There are no classrooms and no deadlines. You simply study whenever you want, at a pace that suits your life, and on any device that’s handy (smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer).
• You will be granted access to Trade Hub as part of your studies. Trade Hub is a literacy and numeracy support tool, which explains key concepts that you will need to understand to work in horticulture (area, volume, instructions, and safety documents).
• With a Certificate II in Horticulture, graduates can get employment in a range of roles, including Nursery Assistant, Gardener, Horticulturalist Assistant, Landscape Gardener, Landscaping Assistant, Arborist or Crop Worker.
• Students who want to focus on open space management (e.g. parks, sporting fields, golf courses, etc.) can progress to the Certificate III in Horticulture. Completing the Certificate II will allow to apply for direct credit transfer into the Certificate III, allowing you to complete the course more quickly.
