This course prepares you to communicate effectively, follow known routines and procedures, and work as part of a team to provide meals and customer service that enhance the lives of older people. You’ll learn how to:

  • Prepare and serve food safely in health or community services settings
  • Follow hygiene, infection control and food safety procedures
  • Understand and use basic medical terminology related to nutrition and care
  • Carry out manual tasks such as lifting and moving kitchen supplies safely
  • Work with diverse individuals with empathy and cultural sensitivity
  • Operate within established site procedures and use workplace resources effectively
  • Support the effective functioning of health and aged care teams

Entry requirements

Domestic Students

  • There are no mandated entry requirements.
  • Be working in the aged care/health sector (only a requirement for the exisiting workers course).
  • Basic internet knowledge and ready access to the internet.
  • Able to use a computer and have basic digital literacy skills.
  • Basic reading and writing skills to answer assessment questions.
  • Preferably has own computer/device compatible to course requirements.
