This hands-on, supportive program is designed to give you the practical skills and knowledge to provide support through food handling, meal preparation, and other essential hospitality tasks in aged care environments.
In aged care, food isn’t just about nutrition – it’s about comfort, dignity, and wellbeing. This course prepares you to communicate effectively, follow known routines and procedures, and work as part of a team to provide meals and customer service that enhance the lives of older people. You’ll learn how to:
- Prepare and serve food safely in health or community services settings
- Follow hygiene, infection control and food safety procedures
- Understand and use basic medical terminology related to nutrition and care
- Carry out manual tasks such as lifting and moving kitchen supplies safely
- Work with diverse individuals with empathy and cultural sensitivity
- Operate within established site procedures and use workplace resources effectively
- Support the effective functioning of health and aged care teams

Entry requirements
Domestic Students
- There are no mandated entry requirements.
- Be working in the aged care/health sector (only a requirement for the exisiting workers course).
- Basic internet knowledge and ready access to the internet.
- Able to use a computer and have basic digital literacy skills.
- Basic reading and writing skills to answer assessment questions.
- Preferably has own computer/device compatible to course requirements.

- NSW Subsidised Training This training may be subsidised by the NSW Government for eligible individuals. Places are limited.
