Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education
Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)Develop your teaching career with this mid-level qualification. This course is available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and is recommended for those who have some classroom experience in primary schools.
In this course you will develop your skills in education support and learn how to teach literacy and numeracy to children, as well as covering core learning areas of the Australian Curriculum. You will also complete studies in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and discover how to facilitate the inclusion of Indigenous history, culture, arts and language into the classroom.
Successful completion of this course will qualify you to seek work as a qualified teaching assistant. You may also continue on with further studies in this area with successful completion of the certificate IV qualification providing up to 50% credit towards the diploma level qualification. Or take advantage of our pathway options and apply to progress into a Bachelor of Education at James Cook University.
