Bar Service & Food Handler’s Job Ready

This 2-day course will provide the skills and knowledge to enter Melbourne’s bar and restaurant scene. You will undertake bar service straining, plus get your Food Handlers Certificate. You are required to hold food safety training to work in hospitality roles.

You must be 18 years of age or over to enrol. 

This course will give students the skills and knowledge to:

• Bar set-up, how to use standard bar equipment, cleaning and close-down
• How to make and serve mixed drinks and cocktails
• Beverage knowledge: an introduction to beer and wine, an overview of spirits and liqueurs
• Tray carrying, wine pouring and speed service
• Using the Point of Sale (POS), processing payments and completing reconciliation
• Providing quality customer service to a range of customers, tips to exceed customer expectations, and how to handle complaints
• Food Handling – you must have your Food Handler’s Certificate (or equivalent training) to work in food and beverage service
• After enrolment, you can access $20 OFF your Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certificate

• Bar service Job Ready Statement of Participation
• Food Handling Certificate – Level 1 (SITXFSA005 Usehygienic practices for food safety)

Assessments
Assessment for your Food Handler’s certificate will involve acombination of:

• In class: Observation of performance
• In-class: Oral questioning
• Outside-class: Theory questions; including short answers, matching questions, multiple choice and case studies, completed online/digitally.
