SITSS00080 Espresso Machine Operation

No matter what your goals are, our Espresso Machine Operation Skill Set is perfect to give you the skills and confidence you need to excel within the industry.

This course will give students the skills and knowledge to:

  • Food handlers certificate (Food Handlers Level 1)
  • How to make and serve espresso coffee
  • Coffee machine set-up and cleaning, using the grinder and extraction techniques
  • Using the Point of Sale (POS), processing payments and competing reconciliation
  • Providing quality customer service to internal and external customers, tips to exceed customer expectations handling complaints

Units of competency

  • SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety – Food Handlers certificate
  • SITXCCS014 Provide service to customers
  • SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee – * Pre-requisite SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • SITXFIN007 Process financial transactions

Assessments

The assessment model is a combination of:

  • Observation of performance and simulated service
  • Oral questioning
  • Theory questions; including short answers, matching questions, multiple choice and case studies

Course Structure

  • Access to online theory from Session 1
  • 4 x 8 hour sessions of practical skills and assessment
  • Self-paced learning throughout course which includes learning content, videos, articles and zoom presentations. The students are expected to do on average 8 hours of self-study per week.

Payment Options

You may be eligible for a Victorian government-subsidised place through the Skills First Program we are contracted to deliver. Course fees & costs depend on whether you are eligible for a government subsidy with fund made available by the Victorian & Commonwealth Governments.

Basic Funding Eligibility Criteria (other conditions may apply):

  1. Evidence of citizenship/residency, you must be either: a. an Australian citizen; b. a holder of a permanent visa; or c. a New Zealand citizen
  2. You can enrol in a maximum of 2 funded qualifications and 2 funded skills sets in one year
  3. You can undertake up to 2 funded programs at one time
  4. At SIU we require you to be 17 and over and not enrolled in high school to access funding
