What is Skills First?
Skills First offers eligible Victorian students of all ages training in six employment sectors primed for major growth. These six employment sectors include Medical technology and pharmaceuticals, New energy technology, Food and fibre, Transport, Defence and construction technology and International education and professional services.
To be eligible for Skills First government funding in Victoria, you must be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen. If you are over 20 years old, you are only eligible for subsidised training for courses leading to a higher qualification than you already have.
There are limits to the number of subsidised courses you are entitled to. You can not start more than 2 subsidised courses in a year, be enrolled in more than 2 subsidised courses at the same time or start more than 2 subsidised courses at the same qualification level in your life. There are some exemptions to these rules. When you apply for a subsidised course, the training provider will check and confirm your eligibility.
