This course was Queensland’s first degree in podiatry and offers opportunities for hands-on learning that are unique to QUT, including industry-leading technologies. Our teaching and clinical staff are practising podiatrists who maintain links with the profession, ensuring our courses are up-to-date and relevant.
During this course you will undertake high quality hands-on clinical placement experiences. At our on-campus podiatry clinic, you will treat real patients under the supervision of clinical educators who are registered podiatrists.
Professional experience is also offered at external facilities where you can learn from podiatrists in industry and experience podiatry practice in different workplace settings. You will have further opportunities to participate in events that focus on promotion of foot health within the wider community.
Integral to the practice of podiatry is an understanding of human anatomy, biomolecular science, pharmacology, dermatology, podiatric medicine and surgery. This theoretical knowledge is supported with extensive professional placement to prepare you for transition into the workforce.

Biological Sciences Major
This course provides a strong foundation in the core biological sciences such as physiology, genetics, zoology, plant sciences and microbiology. Earth Science Major
The Earth is an amazing place and for an earth scientist, it offers a unique natural laboratory that covers space and time. Earth science is a multidisciplinary science that applies chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics tools to understand earth processes, decipher its past and predict its future. Earth scientists work to monitor changes in the Earth’s environment and suggest solutions to problems. They study natural hazards to prevent loss of life and reduce property damage. Earth scientists play key roles in the search for fuels and minerals. Climate change, earthquakes and geothermal energy are just a few of the issues that require knowledge of earth science.
Earth science (also known as geoscience) blends the traditional fields of geology, physical geography and oceanography/ hydrology. Geology describes the rocky parts of the Earth’s crust (or lithosphere) and its development. Physical geography, which studies the Earth’s surface, includes geomorphology, soil science and biogeoscience. The marine and freshwater parts of the Earth define the fields of oceanography and hydrology.

The unit offers the opportunity to study, explore, and understand a range of qualitative research methodologies and methods. In so doing, the unit exposes students to a knowledge base that may inform postgraduate qualitative research.
This unit provides you with foundation knowledge and skills in health promotion. You are introduced to health promotion theories and their use for understanding determinants of health behaviors and for the development of health promotion programming.
This unit is in the developmental stage of your course and furthers your knowledge and skills developed in PUP032 and PUP038 for developing a health promotion program. With a large portion of health promotion work involving the development of health promotion programs, the unit allows you to develop the skills that are essential for a health promotion practitioner.

Infection and immunity
Study how infectious agents like bacteria, viruses, yeasts, fungi and parasites cause disease and explore modern methods for diagnosing, treating, controlling, and preventing them. Discover how our immune system combats or causes disease and how it can be harnessed as treatments.
The course consists of three thematic units (12 credit points each) and one High Impact Project (HiP) self-directed, work-integrated unit (12 credit points).
Each unit is designed around the standard of 150 hours of learning distributed across ten weeks of primarily online and workplace learning. There is also an optional two-day face-to-face intensive workshop prior to the beginning of each unit.
You will undertake units sequentially.
You may choose to undertake the High Impact Project either in parrallel with the thematic units across the year or sequentially as a fourth 12 credit point unit after the three thematic units have been completed.
